Magento Smart Product Tabs Installation

« Back to Smart Product Tabs

You can install Smart Product Tabs in the same way that you can install any Magento extension. For detailed instructions, please the see the Magento extension installation guide.

If the tabs aren't integrating with your existing tabs, you should try changing the 'Tab Integration Method' configuration option in the SmartTabs configuration in the Magento Admin.

My Theme Doesn't Have Tabs!

By default, Smart Tabs will make use of your existing theme's tabs. This is great because these will no doubt already be styled to suit your theme. If your theme doesn't have existing tabs, SmartTabs won't show anything. Fortunately it's easy to fix this. To force SmartTabs to show the tabs, add the following line of code where you want the tabs to display (probably in catalog/product/view.phtml).

<?php echo Mage::helper('smarttabs')->getFullTabsHtml() ?>

My Theme Has Tabs But Smart Tabs Aren't Added

This can happen when your existing tabs have been hard coded into your template. Fortunately it's still easy to add SmartTabs to your tabs by making some small modifications to product view template. This template can be found at catalog/product/view.phtml in your custom theme. You should match the HTML below to the HTML of your tabs system.

<?php if ($smartTabs): ?>
	<?php foreach($smartTabs as $smartTab): ?>
		<?php if ($smartTab->isVisible()): ?>
			<li>
				<a href="#<?php echo $smartTab->getAlias() ?>">
					<?php echo $this->escapeHtml($smartTab->getTitle()) ?>
				</a>
			</li>
		<?php endif; ?>
	<?php endforeach; ?>
<?php endif; ?>
<?php if ($smartTabs): ?>
	<?php foreach($smartTabs as $smartTab): ?>
		<?php if ($smartTab->isVisible()): ?>
            <div class="tab-pane" id="<?php echo $smartTab->getAlias() ?>">
				<?php echo $smartTab->getHtml() ?>
			</div>
		<?php endif; ?>
	<?php endforeach; ?>
<?php endif; ?>
